Template or generator — which do you need?

A blank template is the right choice when your artwork already lives in Illustrator, Affinity or InDesign and you want the panel as an editable object inside that file. Take the SVG, place it, and set your own values with the type tool.

If instead you want the numbers typed once and the percentages worked out for you, use the Nutrition Facts generator — it calculates % Daily Value against the current reference values and exports a finished panel. Filling a blank template by hand means doing that arithmetic yourself, and the 2016 reference changes are exactly where hand-calculated panels go wrong.

Which format to download

SVG is what a printer will ask for. It is vector, so it stays sharp at any size, and every professional design application opens it. Choose this unless you have a reason not to.

PNG at 3× suits documents and mock-ups where you just need an image — a spec sheet, a pitch deck, a co-packer brief.

PDF is the safest thing to email to a printer who has not told you what they want, because it carries the panel at a fixed physical size.

What you still have to add

The panel is one element of a compliant food label, not the whole thing. Alongside it a package needs a statement of identity, the net quantity of contents, an ingredient list in descending order by weight, a declaration covering the nine major allergens, and the name and place of business of the manufacturer, packer or distributor. A perfect panel on a package missing any of those is still a non-compliant label.

Can I edit this template in Word?

You can place the PNG or PDF into a Word document, but Word cannot edit the panel's internal text. For an editable panel, download the SVG and open it in a vector application such as Illustrator, Affinity Designer or the free Inkscape. If what you actually want is a finished panel with your own numbers in it, the generator will be faster than editing anything by hand.

Is the blank template FDA-compliant?

The layout, rule weights and type hierarchy follow the 2016 format in 21 CFR 101.9. Compliance of the finished label depends on what you fill in — the nutrient values, the rounding rules applied to them, and the % Daily Values calculated against current reference figures.

Why is the SVG the recommended format?

It is vector, so it prints sharp at any size, and it is the format most printers and designers ask for. Raster formats have to be exported at a resolution chosen in advance; a panel that looked fine on screen can print soft if the label turns out larger than expected.

Do I have to keep the exact rule thicknesses?

Yes. The regulation specifies the panel's structure, not just its wording — the heavy bar under the serving information, the second one above the vitamin block, and the hairlines between rows. Redrawing the panel with uniform borders produces something that reads correctly and is technically non-compliant.
